4/01/12Ok, so it's been a long long time since I updated this. Sorry! But anyway, it's only 2012, how crazy is that!? Happy New Year! 2011 was a big year for me, with my album being released, more radio play, bigger tours and finally becoming a student. Yes at 21 years old I am now ofically a fresher, as well as being classified as a mature student. Which makes me sound a bit like a cheese. So plans for 2012 include more tours, videos, singles and hopefully album number 3, which I'm in the process of recording at the moment.Outside of my solo stuff I'm also releasing an album in duo form as David Gibb and Elly Lucas. It's out 5th March on Hairpin Records and you can find a bit more about what that's all about on our website which is http://www.gibbandlucas.co.ukFinally I'm planning an acoustic tour in April to keep things ticking over. It's just going to be me and my guitar which is how I first started playing gigs, and I'm really excited about going 'back to basics'. So if you would like me to come and play at your venue, or know a venue you think I should play please get in touch via the 'contact' page below.Right that's enough rambling for now. Over and out :)17/07/11Since last writing on this blog I have:1) Been on a big tour2) Turned 21 year old3) Released my 2nd album4) Supported Seth Lakeman (just last night in fact!)5) Had a jumper knitted for meRight so my new album - 'There Are Birds In My Garden' - was officially released last Monday (11th July). It was all very exciting. You can find out where to buy it on the welcome page or on the discography page. There have been lots of nice things said about and Mike Harding has played it on BBC Radio 2 show twice as of today. We've also had lots of airplay from local BBC Radio folk show, including Shropshire, Gloucstehire, Leeds and Cambridge. All very exciting. Last night myself and the band supported Seth Lakeman at The Venue in Derby which was really amazing. I am alos (as of about two weeks ago) 21 years old. Not sure how I feel about that to be honest but that's another tale all together. So there we are. Busy busy busy.Love and hugs,David2/04/11 - Sorry and all thatYes well, it's been a while. I mean I have lots of good excuses and would share them with you all ifit wasn't for the fact that you're probably not interested. So instead I'll very quickly try and sum up what's been going down...I took part in the Young Story Teller Of The Year 2011 and won the higly commened prize which was lovely. You can read all about it here: http://www.tradartsteam.co.uk/ysoy11-report.htmlI finally finished my new album. It's to be called 'There Are Birds In My Garden' and I will let you know the release date very very soon. I promise. To celebrate the fact that the album is being released I'm taking my band The Pony Club on a bigtour of the UK. If you fancy joining us head over to http://myspace.com/davidgibb to see the tour in full. We're also planning a new music video. It's going to be filmed in April and should be up onlineshortly after. It's for a new song called Two Dead Boys which some of you may have heard us playlive last year, and as far as I'm aware is going to be filmed in a theatre in Derby. Keep your orificesopen for more news on that.RIght think I'm just about done. Very briefly I'm currently in love with the new Noah And The Whale album. Check it out because it's rather bloody good. Also Elly and I are starting to get our duo project off the ground so head over to http://gibbandlucas.co.uk for more info on that!xxxxxxxxxxx6/01/11 - New Year CheerSo it's 2011. It's a new decade. I'd previously been suffering from new year blues (song opportunity?) , but have been too busy this week to think about all that. Yes, I have launched myself back into album recording and spent the week recording vocals and percussion at home of all places. It was odd to see my house set up like a recording studio, with the kitchen the control room and my lounge the live room , and then having to stop in between takes because the dog kept squeaking her sqeaky cracker she got given for Christmas. On the up side when ever I wanted to have a sandwhich I could because it's my own house and when ever I got a bit bored I could wander off and watch TV. I don't want to talk too much about release dates because things seem to be constantly changing, but I will say that we're currently looking at around June time officially. I hope you all had a good Christmas. I'm not actually sure who 'you all' are. Or if anybody reads this. But I like to keep it updated 'for the look of it'. Anyway on that note, ciao for now. x13/12/10 - It's Chriiiiiisssttttmmmassss!Ok so it's not quite Christmas yet, but my tree is up, my presents are wrapped , and I've had my first mince pie of the year so I feel that the Noddy Holder reference was perfectly justified. I've been very busy since my last blog. Elly and I spent a weekend at our good friends Sarah Matthews and Doug Eunson's house recording our first EP for our duo project. It's to be called 'Three Children Sliding On The Ice' and will feature four brand new tracks as well as a guest appearence from Doug himself on melodeon. In a seamless link, I have myself purchased a melodeon. Elly is very much enjoying the horrific sounds that it's been emmititing over the last few weeks. However if I prevail it may be that it appears on one of my recordings in the next year or so.Today I found that Elly and I are appearing on this years BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards compilation CD. All very exciting. You can purchase it here: http://www.play.com/Music/CD/-/2914/2181/-/17944268/Various-BBC-Folk-Awards-2011/Product.html?searchtype=genre Finally my last gig of the year and my annual Christmas party 'Folk Me It's Christmas' takes place this Friday. It's going to be an absolute blast. You can order tickets and read all about it here: http://www.wegottickets.com/event/95609 Anyway that's me done for now! :)x26/11/10 - BBC Young Folk Awards: UpdateWell it's been over a month since I last updated my blog so apologies for that. Elly and I had a fantastic time at the semi finals of the BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Awards. All the other muscians were lovely and really friendly. To top it all we spent the whole weekend working with the wonderful Nancy Kerr and Robert Harbron who were our tutors. I was very very nervous when it came to our turn to perform as we only had 8 minutes to play and everyone else was brilliant. Anyway we played our hearts out and went home after a great weekend knowing that whatever the outcome we'd done our best and had fun. We'd find out whether we'd made the final by email the next morning..The Monday after I was in the studio all day recording a folked up cover of Wham's Last Christmas (more to follow on that) and checking my emails on my phone every ten minutes. It was only when I got home and turned my computer on that I read the email informing us that we'd been chosen as BBC Radio 2 Young Award Finalists! There followed much joyous dancing round the living room.So there we are... We have to go the main Folk Awards ceremony in February where they'll anounce the final winner. Anyway I'm sorry I'm not very good at writing these blog things but I'll promise I'll try and get better!Till then :) x 17/10/10 - BBC Young Folk AwardsI'm very excited to announce that my self and Elly have made it through to the semi finals of this years BBC Young Folk Awards. We're off to perform infront of a panel of prestigious judges in Cumbria on the 13th November. I'm keeping everything crossed! The album is coming along nicely. Last week we recorded the piano at Elly's house on her mum's old upright. Sometimes it sounded lovely and other times it just sounded out of tune but then that's pianos for you. We also recorded the two acoustic tracks in my conservatory which has nice acoustics but was a little bit like recording in a green house. I ended up (almost) naked and very sweaty. In other news the tour with The Momeraths is coming on nicely and there should be a full set of dates in November/December quite shortly.Anyway enough of me, I'll write some more when there's more to say!Over and out. 03/10/10 - Album Mcfalbum. So I've spent the last week and a half in the basement of an old school recording my new albumwhich is to be entitled "There Are Birds In My Garden". My last album took a week to record. This one looks set to take some what longer. However it has reached the point where it's beginning to sound like an album as opposed to lots of drums. Still to do is piano, strings, brass, percussion, vocals, and 'other bits'. The other bits are usually the best bits of all.In other news I'm going out on the road to play a few dates with my good friends The Momeraths. Keep an eye on my Myspace for when and where we are, and try and come down if you're about! If you don't know how wonderful The Momeraths are then go and listen to them here:http://myspace.com/wherethemomerathsgo
